There are three shapes to choose from, each with its own texture. The wavy heart measures about 13mm across and 12mm high, with soft flowing ripples running over a domed face. The textured star measures about 13.5mm across and 13mm high, with a fine pebbled relief that scatters the light. The mushroom dome is about 14mm in diameter, with irregular hammered dents across a high, rounded top. All three come in the same soft white pearl finish, so you can run one shape down a placket or mix the shapes for a collected, one-off look.

Every button is finished with a gold-tone metal shank on the back. The shank sits under the fabric, which means there are no thread holes on the front and nothing to interrupt the pearl-look surface. It also makes sewing quicker: two or three passes through the loop and the button is secure, even on thicker knitwear where a flat sew-through button tends to sink into the fabric. A needle and thread are included with every pack, so you can start straight away.

How to choose

If you are replacing every button on a garment, order one shape in the 12 piece pack so the whole row matches, and count your buttonholes before you order. The 6 piece pack suits a single cuff, a collar detail or a small craft project. For a quiet, dressier look, the mushroom dome sits closest to a classic pearl button; the star stands out most and works well on collar points and children’s clothing; the wavy heart falls between the two. Measure an existing button across the face rather than guessing from the buttonhole, and if you are sewing onto a loose knit, add a small backing button on the inside so the shank does not pull through.

Care

Hand wash or use a gentle cycle inside a mesh bag, and keep the buttons away from bleach, acetone, perfume and hairspray, which can dull the pearl-look coating. Do not press a hot iron directly onto the button face, and store the buttons in a soft pouch so the surfaces do not scratch each other. For dry cleaning, cover the buttons or unpick and re-sew them if the garment is delicate.

Please note: the surface is a faux pearl finish, not a natural pearl, and the relief texture is formed in the mould, so the pattern of the ripples, dents and pebbling, along with the depth of the sheen, varies slightly from button to button. That variation is what gives the collection its baroque, hand-picked character. Sizes are approximate and measured by hand, and screen colours may differ a little from the buttons in your hand.
